The challenge

Five years of growth. One week together.

NCUK is a remote-first education business with a global workforce. Leadership saw a need to foster collaboration and innovation, and to launch a new five year growth strategy.

With colleagues spread across the UK, Asia and the Americas, the strategic leadership team decided to bring everyone together for the first time in five years.

It was also a rare opportunity for Chinese colleagues to visit the UK after the pandemic, strengthening relationships and celebrating everything that had happened since the last in-person meeting.

A workforce that had not met in five years
A five year strategy to launch and embed
80 overseas colleagues to accommodate
An agenda that had to work for every department
The brief

Unite them, and make the strategy stick

Unite a workforce that had not convened in person since the pandemic, and launch and embed the strategic plan to align the business.

Deliver an event with an 80% approval rating that accommodated both business and client needs, including hotel and venue arrangements for 80 overseas staff.

Build an inclusive agenda relevant to every department, with time for collaboration alongside the business that still had to run, and coordinate international travel around business peaks and holidays.

What we did

We designed a week, not a day

01

Branded the whole week

We designed and planned Horizons Week around NCUK's values and industry focus, with a specific name for each day of the week.

02

Mixed the formats

Engaging workshops, dynamic team building activities and a strategy conference, so the week had rhythm rather than five days of presentations.

03

Brought in outside voices

Key speakers included students from some of NCUK's leading universities, connecting the strategy to the people it exists for.

04

Made the audience part of it

We integrated Vevox, so attendees could submit questions and opinions in real time and see them appear live on screen.

05

Got the technical side right

The latest audiovisual solutions throughout, so a global audience got a professional experience rather than a laptop on a lectern.
